Blackstone Acquires $5.5 Billion in Fund Stakes from NY State Retirement Fund

Despite recent rumors, there is no confirmed transaction involving Blackstone purchasing $5 billion in private equity holdings from the New York City pension system. Instead, Blackstone has made a significant move by acquiring approximately $5.5 billion in fund stakes from the New York State Common Retirement Fund, as reported by Dakota.

Historically, Blackstone has engaged in major dealings with public pension funds. For instance, in 2015, Blackstone's Strategic Partners Fund Solutions made headlines by acquiring about $3 billion of global real estate fund interests from the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). This transaction was the largest secondary deal in the industry at that time, according to Blackstone's own announcements.

In the context of ongoing partnerships, the New York State Common Retirement Fund committed $4.6 billion to alternative investments, including those managed by Blackstone back in November 2024, as noted by Pensions & Investments. Such collaborations highlight Blackstone's continued influence and activity within the realm of public pension fund investments.

The Honest Company Faces Tariffs and Consumer Demand Challenges

The Honest Company is currently grappling with increased production costs due to a significant 145% tariff imposed by the U.S. administration on Chinese imports. This tariff has notably impacted the cost of their baby wipes, which are sourced from China. In response to these escalating costs, The Honest Company has opted to raise prices on select products, although there are concerns that such increases might dampen consumer demand and affect sales volumes. To mitigate the impact of tariffs, The Honest Company is implementing a strategic three-pronged approach. According to MarketScreener, the company is developing agile annual plans to adapt to shifting tariff conditions, increasing inventory levels to delay the tariff's impact, and collaborating closely with suppliers to explore additional cost-saving measures. In terms of financial outlook, The Honest Company is standing by its projections for 2025, forecasting revenue growth between 4% and 6% and expecting positive adjusted EBITDA ranging from $27 million to $30 million. This indicates the company's confidence in its strategies to manage current challenges while striving for growth.
