Kosmos Energy is making significant strides in its liquefied natural gas operations, notably commencing gas production in December 2024 at the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG project, which is strategically located offshore Mauritania and Senegal. This development signals the establishment of a new LNG production hub within the Atlantic basin, marking a pivotal moment for the company and the region.
February 2025 saw another milestone, as Kosmos achieved its first LNG production from the GTA project. The initial LNG cargo is now being prepared for loading, with upcoming deliveries set to contribute to the company's revenue. The first phase of this ambitious project is designed to produce around 2.3 million tonnes per annum, with a vessel nameplate capacity of 2.7 million tonnes per annum, according to Benzinga.
In looking ahead, Kosmos Energy and its partners are pressing forward with expansion plans for Phase 2, which aims to boost liquefaction capacity by an additional 2.5 to 3.0 million tonnes per annum. This expansion will utilize existing phase one infrastructure, maximizing efficiency and output. Despite a reported net loss of $7 million in the fourth quarter of 2024, Kosmos Energy's reserve replacement and the long-term reserves-to-production ratio showcase a solid foundation for future growth.
