Tesla's car sales in Norway have soared by a staggering 213% this past May compared to the same month last year, with 2,600 vehicles sold. This impressive growth, as reported by Reuters, underscores the increasing demand for electric vehicles in a market that's rapidly transitioning away from fossil fuel-powered cars.
A major factor behind this surge is the popularity of Tesla's Model Y compact SUV. The revamped version has been Norway's best-selling vehicle for the last three years, which has significantly contributed to the sales jump. For the first five months of 2025, Tesla's sales in Norway increased by 8.3% compared to the same period in 2024. Notably, electric vehicles represented 92.7% of all car sales in Norway thus far in 2025, bringing the country closer to its goal of eliminating fossil fuel vehicles altogether.
Despite overall declining sales in many European markets, Tesla's performance in Norway highlights the significance of local demand and strategic offerings. Tesla is currently encouraging this momentum by providing zero-interest loans for Model Y purchases in Norway and other regions, valid until the end of June, aiming to further bolster its market presence amidst broader challenges in Europe.
