Uber has announced plans to acquire a controlling 85% stake in Trendyol Go, one of Turkey's leading food and grocery delivery platforms, for $700 million. This strategic move is set to enhance Uber's footprint in emerging markets like Turkey, especially as growth in its North American operations slows down.
Trendyol Go boasts an expansive reach across Turkey, with a workforce comprising 19,000 couriers and partnerships with over 90,000 restaurants and markets. In 2024, the platform processed more than 200 million orders, generating approximately $2 billion in gross bookings, marking a year-over-year growth of over 50%. Despite the acquisition, Trendyol Go will maintain operational independence, though Uber plans to gradually incorporate features from its own Uber Eats service.
This acquisition move is part of a broader trend of consolidation within the industry. For instance, DoorDash recently announced plans to acquire Deliveroo for $3.85 billion to bolster its presence in Europe. Uber's decision also comes on the heels of its withdrawal from a $950 million bid for Foodpanda in Taiwan due to regulatory challenges. The Trendyol Go acquisition is expected to be completed in the second half of 2025, according to Reuters.
